The Diocesan Commission for Women, Diocese of Mysore, organised a Gender Sensitisation – Orientation and Training of Trainers (ToT) programme at the Catholic Centre, Mysuru, on 27 September 2026. The programme also included the honouring of outstanding Catholic girl students in SSLC and PUC.

The programme brought together women representatives, trainers and participants from parishes and institutions for reflection and formation on gender equality, human dignity, mutual respect and responsibility. The sessions focused on developing an attitude of treating women and men without discrimination and with equal dignity, rights and opportunities.

Resource Persons

The programme was enriched by the contributions of Mrs. Anita Frank, who shared her thoughts on gender sensitisation, respect and responsibility, and Mrs. Mercy Selin, who shared her experiences and message with the participants.

Bishop’s Message

Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of Mysore, addressed the gathering and offered a message of spiritual guidance and encouragement.

In his reflection on women, the Bishop referred to the traditional story of Girija, drawing attention to the dignity, identity and role of women in family and society. The reflection encouraged participants to look beyond limiting traditional expectations and recognise women as persons endowed with faith, talents, abilities and responsibilities, with an important role in the family, Church and society. The message emphasised the importance of mutual respect, understanding, cooperation and shared responsibility and encouraged participants to carry these values into their families, parishes and institutions.

Honouring Academic Excellence

The programme recognized Catholic girl students who achieved outstanding results in the SSLC and PUC examinations. The felicitation was intended to encourage young Catholic girls to pursue education with dedication, confidence and responsibility and to take an active role in the Church and society.

A Call to Build a Culture of Respect

The programme emphasised that gender sensitisation should not remain a one-day activity but become a lived value in families, parishes, institutions and society. Participants were encouraged to share what they had learned and contribute to a culture of dignity, equality, justice and respect.

The programme concluded with gratitude to the Bishop of Mysore, resource persons, trainers, priests, religious, dignitaries, organisers and participants for their valuable contribution and support.
